Desert Peacefulness

Here at the end of March, Quartzsite is no longer the bustling desert town it was in January, but is actually quite pleasant and relaxed.  While most of our Canadian friends have returned home, and they and others in the north are dealing with snow and colder temps, we are experiencing unseasonably hot weather in the Desert Southwest.

Though hotter than we would like for boondocking, in the 90s for the past few days, a cooling trend is in the forecast.  Awnings and window shades, plus the position of our motorhome to minimize direct sun, make a huge difference.  Our refrigerator is working pretty hard!  We are cooking outdoors and sitting in the shade a lot.  But, the beautiful, cool mornings… particularly the morning walks… and pleasant evenings make it all worthwhile.

Photos below… our peaceful, private location way down the road,” the view from our dining window,” and a beautiful sunset sky!

On our first day in Quartzsite, Carol & Steve came and parked by us for a night as they were passing through… fun to have dinner with them and spend an evening outdoors visiting!

But, to backup a bit… while in the Tucson area, we had dinner with Nancy & Dave one evening… always good to catch up with them. Got better acquainted with Ruth & Dale, and met Charlie & Bill.  Great people… look forward to our paths crossing down the road.  One evening we went to Benson for a fun gathering at Lynn & Roger’s site to connect with Tina & Jeff as they were passing through… great to meet Tina & Jeff’s adorable “fur-kid.”  Cali has found a terrific home with them, and is thoroughly loved already!

Made one final visit to Hanger Prosthetics for some minor adjustments to Tom’s new prosthesis.  He is most pleased to finally have a good fit!  Eddie was terrific to work with!  And, small world… Eddie has a son who manages a ranch in Daniel, Wyoming near our summer campground gig, so we look forward to Eddie’s visit in September!  Thanks for everything, Eddie!

Stopped in Sun City, AZ to visit with Bobbie & Jim… longtime friends from Alamosa, CO who are now transitioning from full-time to part-time RVers.  Good to see their new condo… beautiful, and a perfect winter home for them!  Enjoyed a great dinner and evening visiting!
One additional photo to share below… Maggie and Nell staying cool in the shade on a hot day :)

So, that’s about it from here… plan to begin moving north before long, thru Nevada and into Idaho.  Always a bit tricky transitioning from this hot climate to the cooler areas up north.  Looking forward to another great summer at Warren Bridge Campground, and expect we will open it around mid-May, depending on the weather… time will tell  :)

Be well, everyone!  Tom & Dianne

Leaving Benson

Our month at the Saguaro SKP park in Benson, AZ has been most productive, and on March 11th we celebrated three years as fulltime RVers!  Since our last post, we have continued to enjoy good visits… Diane & Dave stayed until just this past week, Karen & Bob were here for two weeks, Delcie & Freddy for a week, and Pam & Red and Lynn & Roger are here now.  Good friends; special times together!

Tom finished building and installing the new cabinet by the door in our motorhome… this was a cluttered, unorganized space before and is now a great addition for storage and table space.  The drop-down leaf holds  items on two shelves in place as we travel, and offers a nice surface for food/drinks or projects.  Also, a handy spot to set the tv and watch from the sofa across the room when we are plugged into electricity.  Great job, Tom!

Also checked another item off our list… replaced the cooling unit on our refrigerator with a new Amish cooling unit!  The fridge was pulled out into the middle of the motorhome and Tom and several friends enjoyed watching the process!  This job was done by a company out of Tucson, and the refrigerator is now providing much better efficiency!

The fridge service took place while I was away, and I enjoyed updates and photos Tom captured… no stress for me… I never “felt” a thing :)   While all this was happening, I spent five days in Boise, Idaho visiting my sister and brother-in-law there… great hospitality, and a special time with them!  We took in a concert, wine tasting followed by lively music at a Basque restaurant, a bbq at friends, lots of visiting, shopping and a bike ride.  I also enjoyed watching and listening to a musical performance by Sherri & Ed at their church.  Found Boise to be a beautiful city with tree-lined streets and creeks… lots of walking and biking paths, and parks, lakes and rivers there and nearby!  Tom and I look forward to returning in late April or May to explore their area further before moving to our summer location in Wyoming.

So, tomorrow we are moving back to Tucson to finish up a few things before leaving the area.  Having some adjustments made to our MCD window coverings, and Tom has a [hopefully] final fitting for his new prosthesis!  Last week yielded a nearly-perfect fit, so we are hopeful that Wednesday will produce all the comfort he is hoping for!

The remainder of March will find us again in Quartzsite for some relaxing and peaceful boondocking in a favorite location before we begin slowly moving north throughout April.  Have enjoyed a mild winter here in the desert southwest, and will continue to enjoy the warming temperatures and this beautiful desert area while transitioning to summer!

Enjoy Spring!  Be well, everyone!  Dianne & Tom

There is life and such mystery just below the surface as spring is about to burst forth!  The trees look dead, but notice the many buds.  See the tiny green shoots coming through the soil.  Each day is a new vision of renewal.  In the desert or in the mountains… what a special time!!!

March 1st…

As we say goodbye to February, we also say goodbye to our dear friend Marilyn Getz Neely of Alamosa who passed on February 21st.  So many family and friends gathered to pay tribute and share their love of her, and to support Braxton and family at this sad time of loss.  We are far away, but connected… we hold each of them in our hearts and will never forget how special Marilyn is to us.  We are most grateful for the many times we had together over the years and, particularly, for the good visit we had last October when she was feeling pretty good.  The attached photo was taken then of Braxton & Marilyn :)

At the same time we experience feelings of loss, we have learned valuable lessons of living life to the fullest!  Even in her illness, Marilyn loved to hear about our travels and adventures.  We each experience loss of family members and friends… that is the way of life… but we must not let sadness get us down for long.  We owe it to ourselves and to those we love to enjoy life!  So, we must each care for each other, embrace the experiences and adventures we can, and move forward with joy!  That’s our take on it… thank you for letting us share, and for being part of our lives.

This past two weeks while at the Saguaro SKP park in Benson, Arizona we have enjoyed working on projects and having time with friends. It’s been nice to have a lot with a good space for working and gatherings… Tom built the doors for our two tv cabinets that were previously converted to storage spaces. He is now working on the new table/cabinet that will sit just inside our door.  Sure appreciate his talents!

I have been weaving on my afghan, and finished one half of the project!  So pleased with learning this beautiful craft (thank you, again, Carol!), and look forward to keeping my fingers flying.  But, I must remember to take time to walk and get more exercise along the way.          (Maggie thinks it’s for her :)

Of course, this time with friends has been special!  Diane & Dave had been here a few days when we arrived, Becky & Dave arrived about an hour before we did on the 16th, Deborah & Keith arrived on the 17th, and Karen & Bob rolled in on the 23rd.  We enjoyed numerous gatherings… good visits!  Below is a photo of all of us at one of those times.  Plus, Dave K. demonstrated his "flying toy" for all the guys to oooh and aaah over this morning!  Pretty impressive, actually!  Thanks, Dave!

So, that’s it for now.  Becky & Dave, and Deborah & Keith are leaving tomorrow… safe travels, dear friends!  I am headed off to Boise, Idaho on Tuesday to visit my sister and brother-in-law there for the week. SO looking forward to this special time with my sis!  Tom will enjoy the peace and quiet while taking care of Maggie & Nell, and working on his projects.  He also has another appointment for a fitting on his new prosthesis… seems encouraged with the progress on that!  Here’s hoping!

Best wishes to each of you… be well!  Dianne & Tom

What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t happened yet!
