Fires Info; Dianne’s Parents Visit…

We first want to say that we are safe and there are no fires near us. However, we are most concerned about the fires near South Fork and Creede, Colorado.  A number of friends have homes/cabins/ranches in the area… all livestock and people are evacuated. The fire crews must be doing a remarkable job, as no structures have been lost. Some of our favorite areas have been severely damaged, and will never be the same. We hope everyone involved stays safe!

Those of you who know my parents, Bev and Mac, and our children, may enjoy the following.  They were here at a nearby cabin for four days.  We had good visits as they ran back and forth between our son Kevin’s home and our campground site.  On their travels, in addition to a variety of family and friends, they stopped to see each of our five children and enjoyed visits with them, their spouses, and our seven grandchildren. In the first two photos are Bev & Mac with grandchildren Trevor, Sara & Teagan.  And a photo of our son Brian, his wife, Krista, and the children.  So far away… we miss them!

Another stop was dinner with son, Loren, and our daughter, Kayla and her husband, Weston. We were fortunate to see them all this spring, and will be getting together with them again in July!

In Alamosa, they got together with youngest son, Ryan, and met his wife, Kate, and our two youngest grandchildren, Obie and Lucy. We, too, enjoyed time with Ryan, Kate and the kids in May… yippee… more time together in July!

This final stop here in Bayfield, CO yielded many gatherings. A great fish dinner at Kevin and Kirsten’s one evening, and beautiful breakfast the next day, some meals at our campsite and lunch at a little restaurant overlooking the lake.  Too many photos to post, but here are a few… everyone enjoyed the time together!

First two weeks of June…

Well, it has been a nice time here at Vallecito Reservoir near Bayfield, Colorado.  Fun to be with friends, and to spend time with our son, daughter-in-law and grandsons nearby.  The fishing has been great!  Internet is poor, so we seldom get to send e-mails or post to the rv forum, though we are able to read messages now and then.  Not able to read the blogs of those who post, so we are missing those!  Sending this post from our son’s.  Hope this finds everyone doing well!
The first photo below was taken while we were still in Albuquerque but I wanted to include it since it was so fun to get time with RV friends along the way (L-R… Tom, Jim, Sandie, Dianne, Nancy, Dave).  This second photo is of RV friends, Delcie and Freddy, who are the campground hosts here at Graham Creek Canpground. Enjoying being their neighbors!

When we arrived, the grandsons came to check out our new home… I think they especially liked the steering wheel in the living room! Grandson, Logan, turned seven soon after we arrived, and he and “Fuzzy Grampa” had a fun fishing day, followed by a birthday party that evening.

Tom and Kevin got off to a great start at the fishing.  Kevin showed Tom his method of making bait sacks, and how he filets trout… always good to learn some new tricks.  We had a yummy supper and put some packages of trout in the freezer for later!

Some of the great things during this relaxing time in the mountains, are working on projects and enjoying summer evenings.  Below, is a photo of Tom working on a new leather wallet, and one of me and Delcie enjoying a pretty evening with our dogs.

Father’s Day weekend was all about family time together!  We moved to a spacious site at North Canyon Campground for the next two weeks, also hosted by Freddy and Delcie, and next door to Graham Creek Campground.  Plenty of room for Kevin and Kirsten’s tent, and play areas for Logan and Owen.  Kirsten fixed a delicious breakfast down at the lake Father’s Day morning!  We are blessed!

Tom’s New Leg…

Well, after a week in Albuquerque, and many visits to the prosthetist, Tom has a new leg!  It is not yet feeling “perfect” to him, but getting a just-right fit is always a process.  We took photos to give some idea.    The first photo is of his old, beat-up prosthesis.   Ok… there must be a joke in here somewhere…  “He didn’t have a leg to stand on.”

The process begins with evaluation and a cast made to shape the new leg.  First, a plastic “test socket” is made, and then adjusted for fit and height. Shaping, grinding, attaching the foot takes many steps.  This takes more adjustments than a front-end alignment on an RV!

After lots of walking around and trying out the new leg, final adjustments were made at our rig.  Then, we hit the road… anxious to get to the mountains!  The final photos are of Tom sporting his new leg, and our new location near Durango, Colorado with Vallecito Reservoir in the background.  Lots of fishing, and enjoying family and friends here!  Will be great to relax in this truly, lovely setting!

P.S. We have some cell phone use, but internet doesn’t seem to be readily available… so, will check messages whenever in town or at our son’s house.  Contact may be somewhat infrequent, but we remain connected!  Best wishes to all… enjoy summer! Dianne & Tom
