End of August

Wow!  Where has the summer gone?  It seems truly amazing that September is upon us… hope this finds everyone doing well!
It has been a great August for us… many adventures, and good visits with family and friends!  We made sure to have some quiet, relaxing time, as well!  The first part of the month was spent in this secluded spot along the Rio Grande.  And, we were so pleased to locate Tom’s grandparents’ old “cow camp” up in the mountains near Creede!  The cabin is in great shape, and is in use today by the rancher who now holds the contract to graze cattle there. What an interesting history!

Tom has been in “rockhound heaven” as we attended several gem & mineral shows throughout Colorado.  Also toured some museums, mines and historic sites.  The photos below are from South Park City, a recreated mining “boomtown” in Fairplay, CO.  Huge, authentic collection of history, and so nicely done.

The petrified wood was amazing at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, and the enormous, active gold mine between Cripple Creek and Victor was hard to comprehend!

So, now as August comes to a close, we are in Pagosa Springs and looking forward to attending the Four Corners Folk Festival this weekend… three days of music!  Can’t think of a better way to end the summer!
From here, we will see Kevin, Kirsten, Logan and Owen one last week or so before moving on, say goodbye to Delcie and Freddy until Quartzsite in January, and begin slowly heading west… very, very slowly!  Lots to see and explore!
Our best to each of you… have a great Fall, and please drop a note now and then.  We SO enjoy staying connected as we travel along!   Hugs, Dianne & Tom

  2. I remember that cabin, is there a small creek near the front of it??? If there is I used to collect rocks and take them home and try to sell them from the road in front of out house.

    1. Hi Sharla... see our FB reply, as Tom is not sure if the photo is the cabin you are thinking of or the one at 4UR Ranch. Fun old memories, to be sure.

  3. It's been a great summer for us also (well except the fishing hasn't been too good). But we are ready to start heading south again. We're going to move slowly also.
